What happened to Bharat Borge who was found dead?

Following is the text of an article about the mysterious death of Bharat Borge in the Indian Express dated 28th April 2009;

In a mysterious turn in the case of alleged sabotage of industrialist Anil Ambani’s helicopter, the man who spotted pebbles in its fuel tank was found dead on the railway track near Vile Parle.

“Bharat Borge’s body was found by police. A letter was found on his person,” Government Railway Police Commissioner A K Sharma told PTI. He, however, refused to divulge the contents of the letter.

Borge was among the first persons to have spotted the fuel cap of Ambani’s helicopter open on Thursday last and on inspection found pebbles and gravel inside. There were no comments from Anil Ambani Group which had alleged that business rivals may be behind an “attempt to murder” the industrialist by trying to sabotage his helicopter.

Confirming the death of Borge, his employer Airworks India, the company, which had the contract for the maintenance of Ambani’s helicopter, said in a statement that his demise was “unfortunate and tragic”.

DGCA Analyzing Ambani’s Helicopter Case

Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are helping the Mumbai police in analyzing the technical aspects of the sabotage of Anil Ambani’s helicopter, official sources said today.

Senior DGCA officials have been on the job in Mumbai for the past two days, the sources said.

They said the police sought the opinion of DGCA experts to establish whether the chopper would have crashed if it had taken off with pebbles inside its gear box.

At least seven pebbles and stones have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis and tests.

Based on the opinion of these experts, the police could book the culprits on charges of attempt to murder, the sources said.

A complaint was lodged last Thursday that pebbles and mud were found in the fuel tank of the 13-seater Bell 412 helicopter of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), which was parked at the Mumbai airport.

The experts feel that this could have been dangerous as the stones and mud could have entered the gearbox and clogged the fuel passage that could have led to a crash. Anil Ambani and nine top ADAG officials were supposed to fly in the helicopter on that day.

MUMBAI: The Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG) has shot off a letter to the Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, claiming that

business rivals have attempted to kill group chairman Anil Ambani. This comes a day after it was discovered that Mr Ambani’s helicopter, the Bell 412, was tampered with.

“It was noticed that the filler cap fitted on the combining gear box at the top of the helicopter did not appear to be fitted in a correct position,” states the letter written by Captain RN Joshi, senior pilot, Reliance Transport & Travels, an R-ADAG company.

The filler cap, which is about ten feet from the ground, was then opened by Bharat Borge, a senior technician. “There were pebbles and gravel in the filler neck,” states the letter, copies of which have been marked to key state officials like the home minister, chief secretary, Mumbai’s police commissioner and joint commissioner.

The letter further explains that this would not have been detected in a routine check, and was discovered by merely by chance. The helicopter was scheduled to fly Mr Ambani and other senior Reliance Communication officials from Santa Cruz to the Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City in Navi Mumbai.

Claiming that pebbles and gravel were put in a planned manner, it says, “Some persons, possible business rivals, were attempting to take away the life of Mr Ambani. This is clearly an attempt to murder.” When contacted, R-ADAG spokesperson declined to comment. The Bell 412 helicopter has two engines. “Even if one engine breaks down, the helicopter can land with the help of the other engine,” states the letter.

It claims that the gravel and pebbles were put with the help of someone who has knowledge of helicopters. “The helicopter could have taken off but the gravel and pebbles would have soon entered the gear box which could have caused mid-air loss of power. This would have resulted in a forced landing resulting in loss of lives of its inmates,” the letter added.

Mumbai: Pebble and mud in the gear box of a helicopter owned by Anil Ambani’s company is taking a serious tone. Was there an attempt on Anil Ambani’s life? A complaint filed by the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group has alleged that business rivals are trying to kill Anil and other other ADAG senior officials are also under threat.

Anil Ambani was scheduled to travel on Friday morning and the ’sabotage’ was noticed just before his departure.
The mud and pebbles were found in the chopper’s gear box, something that could have resulted in disaster if the helicopter was mid-air.

The chopper was damaged only internally and not externally, suggesting intentional malice. Only Ambani’s chopper was damaged while seven others parked nearby were untouched.

Airworks Private Limited, the maintenance company for the Bell 412, have both filed complaints against employees of the maintenance company who were on duty at that time. The charges are under section 440 of the IPC - mischief committed to cause death or hurt.

Senior Police Inspector, Airport Police, Somnath Ghuge says, “Four people have been detained. They were on shift at the time. It’s a mischief crime and they have been charged under Section 440.”
Police suspect an ongoing stand off between the Airworks Management and its employees as the reason for the sabotage. But with Anil Ambani’s company going on record with the allegation of attempt to murder, expect more twists and turns

Two employees of the aircraft maintenance firm Air Works India Engineering Pvt. Ltd., suspected to be involved in the Anil Ambani’s helicopter sabotage case were arrested on Monday.
The police informed that according to their investigations, the two employees, identified as Palraj Thevar and Uday Warekar, played a significant role in the conspiracy to kill Ambani by tampering with his Bell 412 helicopter.

The duo would be presented before a magistrate at the metropolitan court later on Monday, the police said.

The police is also interrogating a former Airworks employee, Vijay Patankar, who was taken into custody on Sunday.

On May 1, three officials of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, who were interrogated in connection with the death of Airworks technician Bharat Borge, were given a clean chit by Railway Police.
On April 23, Bharat Borge had discovered pebbles and gravel in the gearbox filler cap of a helicopter used by Ambani.

Borge, who could have acted as the prime witness in the case, was on April 28 found dead under mysterious circumstances on the tracks between Vile Parle and Andheri suburban stations.

Following the incident, the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group declared that they have cancelled the maintenance contract of its three choppers with Airworks India Engineering Pvt. Ltd.

In a letter dated April 24, the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG) had alleged that the discovery of the pebbles and gravel in the helicopter’s filler neck was a clear case of an attempt to murder Anil Ambani by business rivals. However, the police has clearly ruled out the possibility of a business rivalry behind the case. (ANI.

I am really surprised the way Media acts in India. After these articles the News is of the record and if asked to relevant Police station the reply would be “Investigation” is still on.
I have following questions open to Media, Public and all forums and the administration.

1. One life is lost and still the investigation is on why so?

2. Such a high profile person is not interested in knowing why there was an attempt of sabotage which could have ill effect on him and the accompanying persons. Why So?

3. It is more than 3 months and there in no mention of the same why one life is lost. Why so?

4. What has happened to family of Bharat Borge?

5. Is there any case or charge sheet filed on those who were arrested?

6. Are those who were arrested witness, accused, suspects or mere culprits to have a case and to forget it soon.

7. We boast of Vibrant Media and the case is forgotten, what if mishap would have occurred to Mr. Anil Ambani?

Please let me know the details if any one has it and if the death of Mr. Bharat Borge is an accident please ignore all and blame me for my ignorance.

I think some thing is going seriously wrong at the bottom? Have the tussle among the Ambani brothers reached a climax. What ever may be the case but poor Bharat paid the price for their family war. I don't think there will be any proper inquiry of this as matter is related to the India's biggest business house.
