I am referring to book by name Indira, ‘The Life Of Indira Nehru Gandhi’ by Katherine Frank published by Harper Collins in the year 2007
Following is written on page 401.
By the time emergency was declared. Sanjay (GANDHI) already had two of his men in key position of civic power in Delhi. Kisan Chand, a malleable man, had been selected as the New Lieutenant Governor of Delhi by Sanjay’s friend Navin Chawla, a high ranking civil servant in the Indian administrative service. Chawla in turn became Chand’s secretary and powerful administer in his own right, running the Delhi Development Authority on Sanjay’s orders...
On page number 422 following is written
Navin Chawla, in contrast, performed like a matinee idol- smooth, convincing, articulate- but utterly implausible. Like many of those who testified before Shah, Chawla pleaded ignorance. He claimed that he had no hand in the demolition operations and that Jagmohan and those under Jagmohan acted independently of Chawla’s boss, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Kishan Chand, Chawla also insisted that his own long standing relationship with Sanjay Gandhi did not any way impinge on his official actions as Chand’s secretary. With heavy irony, Shah congratulated Chawla on his “compartmentalized mind”
Predictably, nothing in Chawla’s testimony was self incriminating. Others however gave evidence that revealed enormous and sinister power Chawla wielded during emergency, He was Sanjay’s henchman and carried out his orders, but he also used the emergency to settle his own scores. Particularly shocking was the way Chawla in the words of Shah commission report exercised ‘extra statutory control in jail matters’ including the treatment of detenus [sick] Chawla not only specified who should be arrested and jailed but also how they were to be treated in prison. His orders included ‘the construction of [special] … cells with asbestos roof to “basic” certain prisoners
So my question to all including media “ Is this the same Navin Chawla quoted in book is gong to become our next election commissioner?
If the answer is yes then media should act wisely. If the answer is no then I am sorry but I have quoted from a book which for sale at any good book shop.
I do not mean any harm or image damaging issue I have quoted the matter from the nook and for writing this kind of things I am not responsible. NO book for sure is accurate and there are many which are biased and are meant to harm big persona. I am sorry, but the book says so. It is upon media or the officials of this blog to dig it out.
